Man. It was hot.
One thing I liked about today was the pretty flowers again.
Bees still busy pollinating.
We walked and could see some really neat rock formations.
It got me thinking about how wonders of nature are independent of belief and background. We started in CLEEF with someone who was speaking about how being in nature affirmed his beliefs. So then reflecting on that I realized that in nature everyone can enjoy. One might see whale bones in desert as evidence of great flood. I might see it as evidence of geological shift. Others might be impressed with all the work aliens put in to move whales there. In the end it doesn’t matter. We are all enjoying it and impressed with nature however we assign the cause.
Today we got to Acton. The ride was quick. We landed in the trail head parking lot and just as we were about to walk to the highway to try to hitch a ride Kristan pulled in looking for someone to pick up. We said yes. $5/ person. Pretty good deal. She is highly recommended by others and now us.
We got to the 49er Saloon and wow. It’s pretty well set up for hikers. Camp in back. Hot shower. Laundry (manual). Awesome food. They do vegan and gluten free. Right next to the grocery store. They provide shade and you can hang out inside in the air conditioned restaurant and charge devices (they have a table set up just for hikers). They have some simple resupply items in house (backpacking meals, electrolytes, fuel).
We pitched the tent on the far side and got our resupply sorted.
Bedtime was nice. We did have several trains drive by at night but I grew up sleeping by the tracks and it doesn’t bother me.
