PCT 2025 Day 60: this is hikertown baby, or “I lost my baby’s hat in Hikertown”

This was a fast and fun day. Secret was a lot of fun and just talked to me all day.

The trail seems to wind around as it approaches hikertown – I felt like it had to be indirect because it felt unnaturally long.

Hikertown is weird and quirky.

The dogs were very excited and maybe not used to kids. I had to carry Secret in my arms to keep him calm. He’s been scared of dogs since he’s seen so many aggressive ones on trail and got bit by Cajon Pass.

Martha is friendly and accommodating but they all seem very busy and overwhelmed.

We got a ride to their store immediately and had some challenges getting our food order. And stayed way too long. We couldn’t find Martha to get a ride back.

We lost Lil Fliers hat immediately. I had it in my hands. Thought I put it under a water bottle or something at the cafe to hold it down and then never saw it again. The wind was wild!

When we did get back, we eventually got our resupply package that we shipped there and Martha gave us a cabin that she hand picked. These are nothing special. A metal shipping container or shed with windows and door. A single bed in the middle. Martha gave us a mattress for Secret to sleep on the floor. We all used our quilts as blankets.

We did some errands in hikertown on our phones. Used the time to book the next hotel, order stuff online and have it shipped to the hotel. We bought a new hat for Lil Flier and had that shipped General Delivery in Tehachapi.

I didn’t sleep well. The wind was intense. The whole structure is solid but I could hear creaking and the wind hitting the walls and blowing stuff over outside.
