PCT 2025 Day 61: Aquaduct

We started a little earlier than usual. There was a wind warning and while it’s supposed to be cooler today, it’s exposed and a long stretch.

The walk out of hikertown was a bit windy, but pretty.

Pretty quickly we passed the depressing school that looks like a fenced in prison and reached the open Aquaduct. This is so cool! We followed this a while. Saw come coyotes (a pup and its parent!). Then left and followed the pipes a while.

This was also cool. We got some water at the water faucet and kept going.

We saw so many Joshua Trees. It was amazing.

Then onto the concrete surface for the covered Aquaduct and kept on that for the rest of the day.

It was REALLY windy, and reasonably cool. There was some very typical desert settings. Joshua Trees, old motorhomes or trailers permanently set up.

The Joshua Trees and concrete structures are our only shade.

We got stopped at least three times by people on the road offering help. One person offered water and food (which we took). Another offered a prepared bag of snacks (banana, sandwich, bars, flavoured milk, etc) and even offered us to use their stroller. Then others offered water.

As we walked we approached the wind farms. Secret said he wanted to camp there. So near the end of the day he remembered this and said “I want to camp just over this hill” where there were windmills on the other side. This was a mile or so from the end of the Aquaduct. And we found a nicely wind sheltered (from some junipers) and flat site there. We cowboy camped looking at the windmills. It was awesome.

We hiked 16 miles.
