PCT 2025 Day 75-83 Vegas Baby

We drove to Las Vegas to spend the time waiting for our Sierra start rather than wait at KMS.

It’s been an interesting but worthwhile side trip.

Vegas is so.. fake. Everything is a fascade. It’s not meant for pedestrians. There’s a tonne of bad design and hostile design. It’s such a surreal contrast to the PCT.

There are some kids things to do. We kept busy.

  • REI and groceries for trail errands/gear replacement and resupply (worth it)
  • Free hotel Laundry (worth it)
  • Cooking in our kitchen suite Hotel instead of going to restaurants (worth it)
  • Blanket forts in hotel room (worth it)
  • Adventure dome (worth it)
  • Mandalay Bay Shark Reef (not worth it)
  • Our hotel pool (worth it)
  • Children’s Discovery Center (sort of worth it)
  • Some bouncy/climbing park in Henderson (worth it)
  • Tournament of Kings (worth it)
  • Gardens at Bellagio (not worth it)

Trail errands:

  • We cleaned our quilts and the kids down jackets, and got them puffy again
  • Party City got new shoes,
  • we bought bear cans and will pick up our new packs in Ridgecrest
  • Fixed the holes in the tent floor
  • Secret got a new hat (his trucker hat is wearing out and uncomfortable now)
  • Secret got a backpack with a water bladder so he carries more of his stuff (including his own water).
  • We shipped resupply to KMS
  • We bought food for the next stretch to KMS
  • I bought a foam sleeping pad to lighten up my pack weight.
  • I got new silicone elastic bands for pots etc
  • We bought and installed stickers for our bear cans
  • We did laundry and finally got clothes clean
  • I hand washed our AD gear and finally got those clean (first time washing them since we started)
  • I got a replacement pair of shorts. Mine were all holes.
  • Party City got a new bra

I’m hoping we can get back to hiking after this. I’m not in love with Vegas but not itching to walk again.
