Day 35: deep creek

After such a big day yesterday today had to average it out. We made it like 6.5 miles.

I’m not complaining but it’s nice being ahead of schedule a bit. Gives us more margin and time when we get to town. But it is what it is.

We are going to unfortunately land end of day tomorrow at hot springs. Which for two grown ups who want to socialize is nice. For a family it’s not ideal. Locals go there. Hikers take a zero there. It’s a vortex apparently. We want to hike past. But we likely will end up at a site nearby which will be a struggle.

Today was slow but it was chill. The heat this afternoon killed Toothless. Drained him. But we took a break by a stream and he soaked his feet. He totally bounced back. Then got drained a bit more in the heat. Then we arrived at Splinter Cabin and a bunch of other hikers who just had passed us also arrived. It was so nice. A big bridge. It was cool. There was water. An old cabin converted to a day use shelter. Toilets.

It’s a day use area but we all camped there.

Lil Flier did a bunch of crawling on the floor of the shelter. She’s really trying to figure it out! She’s super good at scooting now. I managed to watch her do it and it’s a fun little shuffle forward. It’s quick!

Tonight I’m hoping for no bug pressure. I pitched the tent with the doors open (which means no bug netting) to see if it resolves any condensation. We have been getting more condensation on nights with no wind.
