We left the airBnB at 751am in a rush to meet Dale at 8 am for our ride at the hardware store.
Hard to leave that place. It was very nice. Secret cried and said goodbye to the giant stuffed bear that was there. They were inseparable since we arrived.
Dale is cool. Very fair prices for a ride. Very pleasant to talk to.
I took Lil Flier first. This has been our strategy with trying to break Secret’s habit of violating my personal boundaries to get my attention. He is more likely to act that way at 8am and after lunch, then it snowballs from there, so I carry Lil Flier during those times and Natasha/ Party City starts with Secret. It seems to be working. He hasn’t acted that way to get my attention since we started.
The morning was easy dirt road to access Vincent Gap. Hot though.
Forecast called for a thunderstorm during the day when I checked last night but it changed and the storm was now expected after 5pm. So the plan was to get to camp and in the tent before the storm develops.
The climb up Baden Powell was not steep but it was a lot over the day.
We got to snow after a while. Secret did awesome. I got tanked by the time we got to the top. I had Lil Flier and that’s exhausting. She wants out. She leans back. I am carrying more weight. My shoes have no tread and I should have put my spikes on.
We did the summit and tried to get as far down as possible before the storm. We didn’t reach out goal. But found an unmarked site on a ridge on Mount Burnham. There was a wind break already set up. It was tight. The storm was about to hit. I got the tent up. Everyone else .climbed in. I then finished setting up the guy lines and secured with boulders in case of wind. I got in the tent right as we lost visibility. Lots of thunder and lightning flashes after I climbed in but the lightning was like 3km away. Nothing too worry.
We ate in the tent.
The storm passed in like half an hour.
I read song lyrics to Secret. I saved a bunch to pdf and loaded them to our e-reader. He’s really into it.
We all were bagged so crashed. I slept very well.

3 km is too close for my tastes! Glad you were hunkered down.
