The wildfire smoke has impacted many of the views. This makes this section less enjoyable. The HRT (High Rock Trail) is awesome and is a great replacement for the ATV road. It's well designed and nice to walk. The campsites are sometimes oddly spaced. People love to break the rules and ride motorized vehicles where … Continue reading GDT Section B Reflection

GDT Day 21 & 22 – Get your goddamn permits GDT hikers
Trail mileage: 0km Walking between all the very far apart places at Boulton Creek mileage: ∞km So I'm probably going to sound very bitter, but this is my place on the internet, so I get to use it as I wish. This might be naive, but I've been shocked by the number of hikers we've … Continue reading GDT Day 21 & 22 – Get your goddamn permits GDT hikers
GDT Day 20 – Into Boulton Creek; Bring on the Ice Cream
Mileage: 11.4 km (9.3 km on GDT, 2.1 km side trip to Boulton Creek) We left Elk Lakes in good spirits this morning. The hike out of Elk Lakes and into Peter Lougheed is easy and quick and we felt the snacks and showers pulling us into the park. We are a day ahead of … Continue reading GDT Day 20 – Into Boulton Creek; Bring on the Ice Cream
GDT Day 19 – Flying
Mileage: 30.9km We had another slow start today as we took advantage of cell reception and did our last few internet errands. Once we actually started walking, we managed to keep up a very good pace. We could've been in a Mazda commercial - zoom zoom 😉 We made very good time though and hiked … Continue reading GDT Day 19 – Flying
GDT Day 18 – untitled
Mileage: 16.2 km James Lake to Aldridge Creek Natasha already used up all of the up/ down puns so I'm left with no title. The wind last night was terrible. Natasha had the tent pitched on the slanty road last night. Turns out the slant wasn't the issue. The sandy, rocky road makes it hard … Continue reading GDT Day 18 – untitled
GDT Day 17 – Up, down, repeat
Mileage: 19.9km Today was another relatively big day for us with the hopes the following days would be nice and short and we'd have an easy walk into Peter Lougheed and Boulton Creek. We started off with our usual slow morning - Jeanette and Lowell were long gone by the time we even poked our … Continue reading GDT Day 17 – Up, down, repeat
GDT Day 16 – Chumbawumba
Mileage: 25.9 km I get knocked down, but I get up again...Chumbawumba, (I think?) Excuse the probably wrong lyrics; I'm writing this at camp without internet to verify. So yesterday was a not so very good day. I won't write a post about that because I'm pretty sure Natasha already did. What I will say … Continue reading GDT Day 16 – Chumbawumba
GDT Day 15 – One of those days
Mileage: 13.7km So maybe this coloured my opinion of today (or vice versa), but I decided that Section B is my least favourite. It's too long, starts with the nice parts (High Rock and Tornado Saddle), and ends in an unpleasant car-centric frontcountry area. Maybe it would be nicer to do SOBO? Today was one … Continue reading GDT Day 15 – One of those days
GDT Day 14 – Here I am; Rock me like a -hurricane- Tornado
Mileage: 13 km We woke from our site at Dutch Creek feeling pretty awake and in good spirits. We had some inefficiencies and confusion when breaking camp but we got over those and were ready to start our day at around 8am or so (I didn't actually check!) The hike away from camp was quickly … Continue reading GDT Day 14 – Here I am; Rock me like a -hurricane- Tornado
GDT Day 13 – Heavy Packs Again
Mileage: 17.4km It was a windy night which meant the tent was nice and dry in the morning despite camping right by the creek. Kyle took Toothless to start as this would be his last stretch with a light pack for a while as we were picking up the food we cached for ourselves this … Continue reading GDT Day 13 – Heavy Packs Again
